I've been writing songs for over 50 years. I don't know what triggers this creativity and I stopped asking myself after song 100 was recorded. But it brings me joy and that's all that really matters. So, onward, with guitar in hand.
I play guitar. That's all. I can keep a pretty good rhythm, do a little finger picking and even add some lead when asked. I've found it to be the perfect instrument for writing songs.
I try to create the vibe of a song with the guitar rhythm and my vocals. That's a good foundation for the feel and sound of the song. From there I lean on the music I've listen to throughout my life, discovering something new hidden in my memory and mixing it into the song.
